On December 14, the Research Building B of CUHK-Shenzhen, future home to three laboratories led by Nobel Prize Laureates, was named H.L. Tu Building on a grand ceremony. The ceremony also witnessed the presentation of H.L. Tu Scholarship to first ten students winning the honour.

H.L. Tu Building, as the first named building at CUHK-Shenzhen for teaching and research, is to recognize the generous donation of Mr. Huilong Tu, Chairman of Haiya Holdings, and his contribution to the University. In Novemeber 2017, Haiya Holdings donated RMB 100 million to CUHK-Shenzhen and established the “H.L. Tu Educational Fund for Innovation Research and Development”. The fund aims to help create an open, diverse and innovative academic environment at CUHK-Shenzhen by facilitating the academic research of the University, and supporting students with outstanding performance.

President Yangsheng Xu expressed his great gratitude to the donation and confidence in the bright future of the University’s academic development.

“The University has made great progress in academic research since its establishment. Three laboratories led by Nobel Prize Laureates have been built, and will soon settle in the H.L. Tu Building. The year of 2018 saw more achievements in the founding of the Institute for Data and Decision Analytics, the Future Network of Intelligence Institute and the School of Life and Health Sciences. All these results are highly relevant to the strong support of the government and friends from all walks of life, especially Mr. Huilong Tu. CUHK-Shenzhen will never cease advancing to live up to the trust and expectations of the society.”

Currently, the Kobilka Institute of Innovative Drug Discovery of CUHK-Shenzhen has officially started to run in H.L. Tu Building. With more laboratories moving in, this building will represent the academic level of the University and attract more scholars and scientists to join CUHK-Shenzhen.

At the H.L. Tu Scholarship Presentation Ceremony, ten students received the honourary certificate from Mr. Huilong Tu. The scholarship will be provided annually for newly admitted students with excellent performance. It covers the total amount of the tuition fee for four academic years (RMB 380,000).
