The Election Campaign of Resident Student Association of Diligentia College (RSADC)
Diligentia College has obtained tremendous surport from communities, faculty and students since it established in last October. With a series of activities related to students’ college life, Diligentia College is growing up together with students. Diligentia College intends to be viewed as a sweet home by all members, and without efforts of all the members, this goal is out of reach. It costs more than a month for preparation and primary election, after that there are three teams came to the fore: Diliermes、Get√ and Lean In. Let’s take a look at their plans and ideas.

Group Presentation
The First Group : Lean In
LEAN IN is the title of a book written by Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook,
meaning a step forward. Members of LEAN IN are from different grades and schools.
The diversity of members and rich activity organizing experiences provide them a comprehensive perspective when planning for a future map of Diligentia College. LEAN IN introduced their ideas as the following “Threes”: Three principles: guarantee students’ rights, meet their demand and enrich students’ college lives. Three frameworks: system construction, college culture and supervision regulation. Three platforms: information center, resource sharing platform and student management. Three identities: pioneer, practitioner and conductor. As pioneers, they positioned LEAN IN as a creative, diligent and humanistic team. While, as event conductors, their divided activities into three categories: practical, academic and recreational. Three supervision systems: internal supervision system, recall mechanism and all members in Diligentia College enjoy the supervision and accusation rights.
LEAN IN explained some detailed plans and solutions in presentation regarding to college students’ management platform issues, such as safety, public area usage, relations between roommates and noisy. When mentioned about the college culture, they gave some original ideas and elaborate plans about events, characterized as creative, diligent and with humanistic care like making robot with president.
The Second Group GET√——Genuine + Efficient + Trustworthy
A sophomore alone with seven passionate freshmen impressed us with an original explanation about
their name at the beginning: GET√ means Genuine, Efficient and Trustworthy.
It also represent their blueprint about Diligentia College: Gather + Enrichment + Thoughtfulness
They raised a detailed team framework, which consist of Presidium, Secretariat, Finance Department, Public Relation Department, Events Department and Propaganda Department. Group members must attend regular meeting, which will have a teacher from Diligentia College as observer each time. Important issues should have been discussed in meetings with all members presented before making decisions. Fairness and openness are principles in supervision system, which including financial supervision system and multi-channel feedback system for an efficient supervision.
GET√ developed their plan in three steps: find problems, raise problems then solve them. Before campaign, they collected students’ opinions about college life and categorized in external environment problems like noisy and public area usage and internal problems like lack of belongingness and disacquaintance between roommates。They emphasized on the construction of an information platform to build a friendly college together in presentation with practical public relation solutions: cooperate with tutors, wardens and property management in information center and facility, such as online, offline feedback channels, software and hardware. Regarding to college culture, GET√ focuses on a series of recreation activities and college peripheral products
The Third Group: Diliermes
Combined “Diligentia” with “Hermes”, the messenger between gods and human in ancient Greek.
As the name indicates, Diliermes is designed as a messenger between college and students.
With presidium as its core, they developed a group framework with Propaganda Department, Finance Department, Secretariat, Events Department and Rights Protection Office. Diliermes also introduced each member and their responsibilities. This team also collected many problems from students and analyzed one in presentation: private items in kitchen and toilet. Diliermes suggested a complete solution including regulation and implement rules: 1. Set regulations about items’ placement in public area, empower cleaning staff certain rights to deal with out of line private items; 2. Clean public area regularly, set categorized shelving units; 3. Optimize public kitchen, expand and functionalize the storage room; 4. Divide the fridges’ internal room reasonably; 5. Attach QR code on items, promote “sharing economy” through paid use; 6. Set College Black list.
Besides, inspiring ideas like flea market, books sharing, multi-functional campus platform, internal supervision and external public supervision had built up a pragmatic image for this group. In the end, Diliermes played an interview video about students and faculty live in Diligentia College, which remind us the meaning of growing up with our college.
Q&A sessions after group presentation
Questions ranged from the detailed division of functions, gap between regular meetings, work efficiency to events sequence and plans for cultivating college culture. Every question counts. A member from GET√ gave an interesting reply to the definition of College culture: we should not mix college culture and college culture foundation. As a start-up college, we have little culture foundation as it is accumulated over time, while we will gradually find a way in through learn from experiences, activities and understand Diligentia’s students. All the way we had went through will transfer into our college culture and this is what makes Diligentia College unique. Teachers also raised questions from a different perspective. They pointed out these groups’ shortage directly, such as the improper event sequence, inconsideration about different demands from graduates, foreign students and exchange students, relation between students and teachers. These questions remind us we still have a long way to go.
Finally, three groups canvassed in 2 minutes respectively. LEAN IN: Years later, when we meet up somehow somewhere, we might recalled those days in Diligentia College, the perfect imperfections, RSADC’s endeavors, every student here and professors’ warm smiles. GET√ gave a group statement and a special chorus. Diliermes told about themselves simply and sincerely. We are touched by their honesty in different styles, and the campaign came to the end in an affecting atmosphere. Group photos for teams and professors. Audience had made their choices and voted for the team that impressive them with matched blueprint.
The conclusion of campaign is the end of preface in Diligentia’s Construction but not the end of our story.
